Spring 2019 President's Message, Patricia Pavlak

President’s Message

“ If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant.”

                        - Anne Bradstreet

Welcome to Spring - the season of birth and renewal, when everything is fresh and anything seems possible.  Is your library ready for the busy spring season?

Spring is a great time for your library board to do some spring cleaning.  When is the last time you looked at your bylaws?  Now is a great time to review your bylaws and make sure they meet the needs of your board.  Periodically reviewing and revising your bylaws is best practice, and can prevent problems with the effective functioning of your board.

Now might also be a good time to look at your library policies.  Do they accurately reflect the goals and mission of your library?  Do new circumstances in your library require new policies?  Do you have policies that are no longer relevant or necessary?  A careful review and update of policies will help your library meet the needs of both patrons and staff effectively.

If you are a new library trustee, you’ve had a few months to acclimate to your new position.  Hopefully, all is going well and you are enjoying your new role. If you have questions or concerns, we’re here to help.  We have two trustee days scheduled, in June and September, which are perfect introductions to your responsibilities as a library trustee.  Come meet your fellow trustees, ask questions and learn what other libraries in the state are doing. See our calendar page for dates, times and registration information.

Happy Spring!
