Topic: Trustees and Advocacy: Critical Issues facing NJ Library Trustees.

There are several critical public policy issues facing New Jersey library trustees. They include:

  1. The public vote on the referendum to approve $125 million in bond funding for New Jersey Public Libraries.
  2. The weakening of school library media programs. Many school districts have eliminatedschool library l media positions . In addition, New Jersey does not have an information literacy curriculum for students. Many other states already require information literacy as an educational component for all students. There are two bills in the legislature which would address these issuesA4500/ S3258would require a specific number of school media specialists in each school building.A 4858would establish an k-12 information literacy curriculum in all schools.

Futures Conference
Description Date Location

What does the future of libraries look like? How will libraries be impacted by technology? How will they communicate and what tools will be available to help libraries adapt in order to best suit their customers’ needs?

Join librarians from across the country in beginning a discussion on how libraries need to change in order to thrive in the next decade. We imagine a morphing of imagination, inspiration, and information that will transform the way libraries look at the future. Hear speakers share their vision, engage in small group discussions and be a part of a conference where EVERYONE walks away with a plan to navigate the future through newly envisioned possibilities.
