BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania — Emil Ferris (“My Favorite Thing is Monsters”) will be among the featured authors at United for Libraries’ “First Author, First Book panel from 3-4 p.m. on Sunday, June 25 at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago.
Joining Ferris will be C. Morgan Babst, Devin Murphy, Sarah Shoemaker, and Gregory Scott Katsoulis. A book signing will follow. The panel will be moderated by Barbara Hoffert, editor of Library Journal's Prepub Alert.
United for Libraries to present Nuts & Bolts for Trustees, Friends and Foundations at ALA Annual Conference
BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania — United for Libraries will present Nuts & Bolts for Trustees, Friends and Foundations from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, June 23 at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago.
Library Trustees, Friends groups, Foundations, and staff are invited to join a free day of information and resource sharing, roundtable discussions, and learning opportunities. This year's theme will be board development. Speakers will include:

BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania — Jonathan Safran Foer will join Allison Pataki, Elly Griffiths, Brianna Wolfson, A.J. Finn, and Celeste Ng at the United for Libraries Gala Author Tea, sponsored by ReferenceUSA, from 2-4 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26 at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago.
A light offering of tea, finger sandwiches and a variety of sweet treats will be served. A book signing will follow. United for Libraries will recognize the winners of the Baker & Taylor Awards during the program.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On May 1, United for Libraries Executive Director Sally Reed presented Sen. Jack Reed (D.-R.I.) with United for Libraries’ Public Service Award for his support of libraries during a special reception in the Hart Senate office building.
Sen. Reed authored key sections of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 and seeks to fix the No Child Left Behind education law that was signed into law nearly 14 years ago.
BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania – The American Library Association and United for Libraries has named Mark Miller, chair of the Loudon County (Va.) Library Board of Trustees, a recipient of the ALA Trustee Citation.
The ALA Trustee Citation, established in 1941 to recognize public library Trustees for distinguished service to library development, honors the best contributions and efforts of the estimated 60,000 American citizens who serve on library boards.
CHICAGO – Today the American Library Association announced Beth Nawalinski, deputy executive director, United for Libraries, as its new executive director, effective July 31, 2017. Following a nationwide search, Nawalinski will fill the position being vacated by the retirement of Sally Reed.
For National Library Legislative Day, May 1-2, 2017, hundreds of library supporters will convene in Washington D.C., where they meet with their members of Congress to rally support for library issues and policies.

BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania -- United for Libraries has awarded the 2017 United for Libraries/SAGE Academic Friend Conference Grants to Lisa Kippur, executive assistant to the deans at University of Colorado Boulder Libraries.
Kippur will receive $850 plus full conference registration to attend the 2017 ALA Annual Conference in Chicago. A formal presentation to the grant winners will be made at the conference at “Nuts & Bolts for Trustees, Friends and Foundations” on Friday, June 23, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Washington, D.C. – United for Libraries, in partnership with the Philippine Arts, Letters and Media Council (PALM); the Philippines on the Potomac Project (POPDC); the Rita M. Cacas Foundation, Inc. (RMCF), and the Toribio Family, will dedicate the fourth Literary Landmark in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, May 6 (3-5 p.m.), at the original site of the former Manila House (2440 K Street, NW, Washington, D.C.).
Sarah Jessica Parker to unveil first Book Club Central pick at 2017 Annual Conference President’s Program
“From an early age, books were my constant companions and my local library a place I could find a new friend on every shelf,” says award-winning television and film actor, producer, designer, library supporter and avid reader Sarah Jessica Parker. During the President’s Program at the 2017 ALA Annual Conference & Exhibition on Saturday, June 24 at 3:30 p.m. in Chicago, Parker will unveil her first title selection as part of the official launch of ALA Book Club Central, for which she will serve as Honorary Chair.
CHICAGO – The American Library Association (ALA) is creating Book Club Central, a new online platform of reading resources, including recommendations, expert book lists and other content for book clubs and their readers. Award-winning television and film actor, producer, designer, library supporter and avid reader Sarah Jessica Parker is partnering with the ALA to serve as the Honorary Chair of Book Club Central.
BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania - United for Libraries is accepting applications for the Baker & Taylor Awards, given to friends of the library groups and library foundations. Applications are due May 1, 2017.
Given annually since 2000, the Baker & Taylor Awards have recognized more than 45 groups for outstanding efforts to support their library. Two winning groups will each receive $1,000.
